"Person of Color"

The phrase “people of color” or “person of color” has much more definition today, if you are an American. From what I see if you’re not white then you are a “person of color”. Which I guess can be fine but then I started to think that a “person of color” meant that you have some type of melanin in your skin and people are using outside of those contexts are misusing the phrase. But then I notice being a “person of color” almost applies to Mexicans, Muslims, Native Americans (Americans!), and even some Asians.

With all these groups being defined as “people of color” instead of humans, you have to wonder why do people want division? Why are people craving to be put in separate places and not want live in the same neighborhood that Muslim lives in? Or Hispanic? Most of these groups grandparents had to immigrate from here in order for their children to have a better life.

America is the one place where all types of people are supposed to be accepted. America is the place where people believe that their dream can come true if they work hard enough. But all of sudden, some white Americans are afraid of people who are different from them? There are Americans in general who believe the minorities groups are taking their jobs when in reality they are just not applying to those jobs.

Being a “person of color” means more than just being black now. We are fighting for all of these groups of people. We are now fighting for people who are born here but now being questioned because someone doesn’t agree with their culture.

I know most black people would say "we need to focus on ourselves!". I would agree with them but at the same time, there are people are facing the same problems as us and live in the same community. I do believe that the black community recognizes these things and are willing to fight those people as well.

Be more open and honest. If you have questions ask, learn, and grow!! We can’t live in fear for the rest of our lives.
