Natural Hair Community Issues

I have been in the natural hair gang for about 3 or 4 years. I love the fact that more and more black girls are recognizing the harms of getting a relaxer. I also love the fact that now there are more products for the curly girls of the world. I love that companies are starting to make products that works for all types of hair. The problem I have is when it comes to actually promoting the product.

Most times when you see a company promoting natural hair products, most companies use girls with 4a type hair or maybe even 4b. Which is fine but what about those girls with tightly coiled hair? The girls whose hair would be considered "nappy".? There is a lack of representation for those girls because companies only seem to show girls with looser curls.

If I was to go on Youtube and look for natural hair tutorial, the first thing that would show up is girls with looser hair textures. Those kinky hair girls are also in the search but I have to dig a little deeper to find those girls.

I do think companies are getting better about that but there can always be more. If we are going to be promoting these products. Try to have representation for all hair textures and not the ones you consider to be "good hair"!
