Transition Tips!!!

I have been natural for about three years now and oddly enough I still I am learning about my hair. But this post today is about my girls wo are transitioning and who are struggling on how to take care of two or three different hair textures. Even though I am not an expert, I thought I could give a couple tips on how to take care of your hair during this very sensitive time.

When you are transitioning, your hair is changing from relax to its natural state. You are choosing not to put chemicals in your hair any more. The thing is though you have to take care of both textures and sometimes that can be a lot of work. Here are few tips on how to take care of transitioning hair.

What does your hair need?

Figure in this stage of your hair journey, what does your need the most. Does it need moisture? Does it break easily? Do you have dandruff? Figure out what is most important to your hair right now.

Practice natural hair styles!

I think it is important to practice different hair styles in order to know your favorite hair style. I started doing braid outs early in my transition but I also did a lot of bantu knots and flat twist. Just find the hair style you like best that doesn't require much product and practice, practice, practice!!

Deep conditioning is important!!!

I find that the most important time to deep condition is during transition. Your hair is so fragile that you want to keep moisturized at all times. What I used to do and still do is oil my scalp and put my deep conditioner product in at the same time. So that way I would not be doing my hair as along and my hair was still moisturized. But do deep condition.

Find whatever works for you during the transitioning proccess. Eventually your routine will change again once you are fully natural. As of right now, do what is best for you hair!
